We’re in! But only just. We’re living in what feels like chaos –cardboard boxes in our paths, deliveries and installations nearly every day, and finish work going on around us– but we’re delighted to be in our new home nevertheless.
We’re finishing the finishes and pulling together the decoration, and there will be more on that later. In the meantime, though, I’ll catch you up on the construction.
The new kitchen was the biggest part of the project and seemed to be going nowhere. Of course, this was because the cabinetry was built offsite. Once it arrived, the room quickly took shape.
We also did a lot of work to the ceiling. In addition to taking out nearly all of the bulky soffits and streamlining the ductwork, we rationalized the lighting plan, which took a long time to get just right with all of the beams, ducts and pipes crossing the ceiling. Now if I could just master the light switches . . . .
As we finished the ceiling, we decided to paint the ductwork white –the galvanized ducts had a nice, honest industrial look appropriate to the loft’s history, but they were just too distracting for us. We left the sleek cast aluminum air nozzles unpainted, though.
Which may be my favorite detail so far.
Ok, back to the boxes . . . .
