Hello, Rachel. That’s a good question. I think the answer depends on the overall aesthetics and acoustics of the room. If, with a room full of diners, the room sounds too “live” and loud, a rug is probably necessary to help manage the noise. Or if, over time, you think it feels too cold (especially in the winter months) you may need to add one as well. But you could also warmth with drapes or wall covering and keep the floor nice and clean. I like that look (and the practicality!) a lot too. In my case, I think we need a rug to bring warmth and color into the dining area — the noise isn’t a problem. Good luck with your decorating. DD

You’re so lucky you can have your rug custom-made. It suits the color of the dining chairs well. The color palette is easy on the eyes, too.

Hi,
The rug sample is beautiful. You must be excited to have the project progress along. The timing of this topic is so perfect for me right now.
Question for you: Do you feel it’s necessary to have an area rug under a DR table if the floor is hardwood? I’ve recently rearranged furnishings in my house, and a big part of this was shifting around the area rugs. As a result, the DR now has no rug. This feels and looks clean — and is way easier to mop up spills from my toddler! — but it’s also louder and feels a tad cold in the DR now.
